Associates

An Associate is an associate member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) who is undergoing preparation for their Advanced Driving Test. To become an Associate you need to enrol onto the ‘Skill for Life’ programe. This can be done: -

  • On a driving night with the NSAM – See Ian Kinder, Membership Secretary or e-mail him here.
  • Online here.
  • Or by contacting IAM HQ by telephone: - 0845 126 8600.

If you chose either of the latter methods, please bring along your completed Skill For Life form to your first drive night along with your driving documentation (licence –both parts, Insurance Certificate for the vehicle you plan to use and a MOT certificate if vehicle is over 3 years old).

Meet some of our recent Associate's here.

Observers

An Observer is a member of an IAM group who after passing their Advanced Driving Test, has trained further to enable them to prepare Associates for their advanced test. Observers are here to help you, by giving you advice, explaining different approaches to your driving and thus improving your skills. Observers are not paid for their work. They are volunteers who give up some of their free time to pass on the skills which helped them improve their driving. They get their rewards by seeing the improvement in an Associates driving and satisfaction when they receive a phone call from a happy Associate who’s just passed their advanced test.

Meet our Observer's here.
